Acrylic Painting Tutorial – Ocean Sunset (Beginner to Intermediate)

In this acrylic painting tutorial, I wanted to show how to paint a simple and cute ocean sunset scene. This tutorial focuses heavily on blending with acrylics, which can be a tricky thing. We take it step by step to be able to blend a clean pretty sunset sky that is reflected in the water below.

Times have been tough recently, and staying inside to paint is one of the best things that you can do to keep your brain healthy while social distancing or in “shelter in place” or in quarantine. So here is a little tutorial for you to do a some painting in these strange times. Learning how to paint is a great way to spend your time while you are inside. Try and relax and destress with this calm little tutorial.

In this painting I used only 4 colors, cyan blue, quinacridone red, medium yellow azo, and titanium white. If you don’t have these exact colors, feel free to use any red, blue, yellow, and white.

  1. So I'm pretty late to this video but still wanted to comment a quick thanks 😀
I always struggle to pick the right colors and often end up with something that looks too bright and unrealistic, so this video was really helpful for me! It's going to take some more practice to get a result I'm fully satisfied with, but for a first attempt from a beginner like myself I'm pretty happy! Will certainly be taking a look at some more of your videos for more inspo 😀

  2. What I've learned about watching like this video, is you didn't need to compare your Arts to other expert Artists out there. Art is about expanding your arts in your own style, so it doesn't mean that you need to be perfect. ☺️ I'm also practicing a lot stuff of ARTS from drawing, sketching, manga animating, script writing now im into painting, it is not that im good tho. I'm just doing those thing for stress relief kind of hobbies it is for self satisfaction rather than competing nor comparing my art from other experts. It is only for my own happiness.😊 But,thanks for this video. I have high respect for artists.

  3. Ok! I will do this…..
I will update after its done.
    Update:
I messed up, but this was the first time I'm trying ocean painting.
Mixing colour was the toughest thing and I also messed up that waves. I will try until the results are enough satisfying.
